Chlamydia Test
Chlamydia is a common bacterial STI that can affect men and women of any age, though the number of cases diagnosed is higher in those aged between 16 and 25. Though chlamydia is easily treatable, it is considered to be an especially dangerous STI because it is often asymptomatic, especially for women. In fact, 75% of women and 50% of men who have chlamydia will not notice any symptoms at all. Serious health problems can develop if chlamydia is left untreated, which is why it is particularly important to take a chlamydia test after having unprotected sex, especially if you suspect you may have contracted this STI. Such complications could include fertility problems and an increased susceptibility to other sexually transmitted infections.
If you have had unprotected sex, we recommend you take a chlamydia test to rule out infection. If you would like to buy a Chlamydia test online, you can do so at our partner site, LabsDirect.com.
How does a chlamydia test work?
Home chlamydia testing is very simple. Once you have ordered the test, the kit will be sent directly to you, containing a transport cup in which you will need to provide a urine sample and a prepaid envelope. Using this envelope, you will send the urine sample to their partner laboratory where it will be analysed for the presence of the bacteria that causes the chlamydia infection. As this part of the testing process is performed in a lab, the quality of the results you receive are exactly the same as if you had visited a sexual health clinic or a doctor.
Once the results are available, you will be contacted via email and will then be able to see the results in a secure member’s area.
Which chlamydia test should I take?
Our partner site LabsDirect.com offers three options if you wish to take a chlamydia test. Firstly, there is a single test which tests only for chlamydia. Secondly, there is a test which detects both chlamydia and gonorrhoea. Finally, you may wish to take a Full STI Screening test, which can test for eight of the most common STIs. This is a recommended option for those who have had unprotected sex as it is possible that you could have contracted any one of a number of STIs.
When will I receive the results from a chlamydia test?
Test results are usually made available to you within two to three working days. You will be able to view them in a secure member’s area.
What do I do if I receive a positive result from the chlamydia test?
Chlamydia is easily treatable with antibiotics, so you should not worry if you receive a positive result. You can find the antibiotics you need here at STITreatment.co.uk with a choice of either Azithromycin or Doxycycline.
